This is an early 1980's poster advertising an exhibition of Hispanic/American Art at THE MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART of Chicago,"Ancient Roots/New Visions". The poster illustration is by the well known Chicago Mexican-American artist Alejandro Romero whose work was featured in the exhibit. The poster has been signed by him in the lower right corner. It measures 36" x 24".This is a fine collectible investment by this widely known artist as well as wonderful art to display. Below is information from Bonham's product House on an upcoming sale of the painting pictured on this poster. It is expected to bring from $4,000 - $8,000. I have other signed posters of his up for buy - framable signed works by him atfraction of the price of the original paintings.Lot 5043Alejandro Romero(Mexican, born 1948)Músicos ambulantes (Street Musicians), 1979 34 1/8 x 31 5/8in.US$ 6,000 - 8,000£4,100 - 5,400product 22398:Art + Decor12 Apr 2015 10:00 PDTLos AngelesIn 1979 Romero first gained wide recognition in what would become one of this most characteristic media: the event-based poster. He has created images for more than 75 posters displayed in the Chicago area, including those for such major events as the Chicago Jazz Festival. The posters fit with the populist aspect of Romero's aims—"A lot of people can't buy my paintings, but they can afford posters," he pointed out to Hispanic— but they were also ideally suited to his style, which tends toward both high impact and complexity. The intense colors of his works attract the viewer's attention to a poster, but his paintings tend to contain multiple elements that may embody various responses to the theme of the event being advertised.BIOGRAPHY:Alejandro Romero was born 1948 in Tabasco, Mexico . He started his studies at the Academy of San Carlos of the National School of Fine Arts in 1967. He’s studied mural art at Juan O'Gorman.
